We are proud to be able to share with you a range of mixtures that have been designed using the perfect blend of technical expertise and practical experience. This draws upon practical farming experience and getting a feel for how each variety performs in its own right when we are looking after herbage seed crops.
Our priority when creating a mixture is to make sure that we are achieving the specific goal that you as a grower have in mind. By using an wide range of varieties and species we are able to create mixtures offering optimum performance at an competitive price point.

The Pro Cut series contains a range of mixes that will deliver exceptional cutting performance on farm in terms of yield and quality. We have endeavoured to use top end varieties in terms of output and disease resistance. These varieties will all respond well to Nitrogen input. Don’t forget that Sulphur is equally important to grass where multiple cuts are being taken. Whether you’re looking for a one year ley taking multiple cuts or a longer term ley we’ve got you covered. We are always able to offer a tweaked version of any of these mixes or something that is completely bespoke.

Pro Cut Premium Short (2-3 years) is the ultimate short term cutting ley. Made up of leading premium varieties it offers exceptional yields and disease resistance. The addition of the Festulolium gives flexibility on more stress prone sites. Due to the mixture being largely made of tetraploid varieties we suggest that 16kgs/ acre is the optimum sowing rate as tetraploid seeds are larger than diploid, plant numbers is where the second, third or even fourth cut yields come from so is a worthwhile investment.

Pro Cut Economy Short (2-3 years) is designed to offer a more persistent offering to purely Italian ryegrass leys. It will offer high yields and good quality. Similar to the premium version it benefits from being sown at a higher seed rate due to the amount of tetraploid in the mixture.

Pro Cut Hybrid (2-4 years) as a mixture containing all hybrids, this has several key features. The first of which is that it is best suited for placement in arable rotations as a short term ley. Hybrids yield well and are more persistent than Italians as well as producing good quality.

Pro Cut Hi Protein (1-2 years) is as the name suggests produces a high protein silage. It is a high yielding mixture and features some premium cutting varieties. With forage based protein becoming increasingly popular due to high concentrate feed prices. This mixture will offer a reasonably priced protein source.

Pro Cut Haylage (3-4 years) is designed to produce professional quality haylage for equine use. The use of four tetraploids ensures an even wilt which is key to maximizing quality. Due to being 100% tetraploid it is advisable to use a higher seed rate if more than one cut per season is intended.

Pro Cut Short Term Hay (1-2 years) does exactly what it says on the bag! If you are looking for a high yielding ryegrass hay this is the mixture for you, by mixing the two diploid Italians it offers a high quality even wilting hay that doesn’t take forever to “make”. Can also be used toy make haylage if the weather isn’t on your side.

Pro Cut Soft Hay (4-7 years) is a long lasting mixture that will provide soft hay due to the dominance of Timothy and meadow fescue. This will produce top quality hay aimed at the Equine and small pet market. Again, it is suitable for overwinter grazing and will thrive across a range of sites.

With a good percentage or early perennial to kickstart the grazing season and a selection of other highly digestible varieties give improved animal performance from grazing.

Lucene has become an increasingly popular species due to its ability to be cut multiple times in one year offering very high protein silage. We have found that adding Timothy to the mixture increases the quality of the bale by adding more starch. This works well as an alternative to concentrate feeds especially for those under grass fed only systems.

Overseeding Mixtures
Done properly overseeding offers a cost effective method of rejuvenating leys. To get advice on how to get the best results please contact us to find out how. We have only used tetraploid grasses as these are larger seeded and have greater vigour, increasing the chances of success from overseeding. All of these mixtures can have clover and or herbs added.

Equine Mixes.
Our equine mixes are all designed specifically for horse and pony grazing. They do not contain any high sugar grasses that cause laminitis. Whilst there is a myth that ryegrasses can be harmful to horses there are huge differences between varieties and the ones selected here are perfectly safe for horses. We do also offer a ryegrass free mixture for more stress prone sites. All of these mixes if left ungrazed would make a modest hay crop.

The ryegrass free mixture offers very low sugar and protein mixture that is hard wearing and resilient. It will not be quick to establish but will have good persistence.
